![]() Many people, especially “do it yourselfers”, love to take hold of home improvement projects on their own, without the assistance of professionals. Installing a septic tank may be one of the projects you think you can handle on your own, but in reality it takes more work and proper planning than originally anticipated. Here are a couple of the reasons why you should avoid installing a septic system yourself and have the professionals deal with it. The first step to installing a septic tank is going to your city hall and finding out exactly what you can and cannot do. Every town, city and municipality has different rules and regulations regarding installation and placements of septic systems. Professionals, like us who specialize in septic work, are already aware and familiar with all the regulations, and even if we’re not, we’ll find out ourselves in order to stay within code and regulation. The next step is acquiring a construction permit. Paperwork, more trips to city hall, and more time spent if you’re doing it by yourself. We’ll have the permits, deal with the paperwork and make sure it’s all set to go in the end. Now it’s time for the work. Digging. Lots of digging. Unless you have the equipment already, like an excavator or other heavy duty machinery, you have to do this by hand. That could be a problem. If you don’t have the equipment, of course you could rent it, but the cost starts adding up. Not only that, but if you don’t know how to operate it, what’s the point in renting it. Learning on the job with a project like this is not the best option. Once the hole is dug installing the tank and system is next. There’s a lot of technicality involved with this step. Certain angles and grade is required in order to have proper flow and avoid future problems with possible pipes freezing or backup. The final step is filling in the dirt and getting everything back to normal. With us, you get professional service with years of experience in landscaping and excavating as well. There’s a lot involved with installing a septic system. In New England and Maine especially, the cold climate can lead to issues with septic systems. Why wouldn’t you avoid the hassle initially and have a professional take care of it setting you for a safe and sound future. It’s our specialty. Something we handle on a daily basis and have the experience and expertise to get it done right and efficiently. Please check back for more information on our company, services and what we’re up to. Currently we are dusting off the plows and gearing up for the winter in preparation of snowfall. We’re busy all year and the winter is no different.

You made a good point when you shared that it is important to check the rules and regulations of your area before you can install a septic tank. My uncle just mentioned the other day that he is planning to build a house on a plot of land that he jus bought from a friend last year. I will suggest to him hiring a reliable service that can help install a septic tank for his new home.

So many homeowners we met have skipped step one that you referenced: "going to your city hall and finding out exactly what you can and cannot do." In skipping this step, they find themselves in big trouble - having to pay fines, having to redo all of the work they've done and more. It's always best to call an experienced professional to do the work.
